► 🧴 Pearl Daily Care
  • Put your pearls on last and take them off first. As an organic gem composed of calcium carbonate, pearls are more vulnerable to the chemicals found in cosmetics, hair spray, and perfume. Dress, style your hair, apply your make-up, and spray on your perfume before you put on any pearl jewelry.
  • Immediately wipe your pearls clean with a soft cloth if they get exposed to acid. Acid can come in the form of sweat, perfume, fruit juice, vinegar, or a number of other substances. The acid will break down the crystallized calcium of the pearl, ruining its luster and causing long-term damage.
  • Limit your use of pearl rings and bracelets. These pieces are more subject to scratching since they sit on your hands. Never wear these pieces when you anticipate working with your hands, and limit them to special occasions.
  • Only use mineral water or distilled water to rinse your pearls. Standard tap water contains chlorine and other chemicals that can damage the surface of your pearls.Gently dab the water and soap of your pearls with a dry, soft cloth. Do not let chemicals or water sit on your pearls too long.
  • Keep your pearls in a separate compartment, away from other jewelry. Other gems may scratch the surface of the pearls if they come into contact with them. Consider storing your pearls in a silk bag, velvet-lined box, or satin-lined pearl folder. Taking this extra precaution will ensure that nothing else scratches your pearls.
► 🔍 It’s a Real Pearl or Not
  1. The real one feel colder in your hands than the fake one.
  2. Imitation pearls are too perfect—they have the same amount of luster on every part of the surface, and no indents of slight imperfections. Real pearls will always have some slight imperfection—you just have to look closely to see it. While you may picture pearls as perfectly round, they actually form in many shapes. If all of your pearls are perfectly round or the exact same shape, they are imitations.
  3. Rub the pearls against each other .Real pearls will have a bit of friction when rubbed together (meaning you’ll feel some resistance when you rub the pearls together), as nacre is not perfectly smooth. Nacre layers, when rubbed together, will also leave a powdery residue behind. If neither of these things occur, your pearls are not real.If the pearls feel smooth and frictionless when rubbed together, they are most likely not real. However, pressing too hard can slightly scratch the surface of the pearl so take care not to press too hard.
  4. Use a microscope to check the surface of the pearl. To be able to truly see the pearl’s surface, you can use a 30x jeweler's loupe but microscopes with 64-power magnification or more work best. As stated above, the surface of real pearls look scaly, while the surface of fake pearls will appear grainy.
